GTCR Golder Rauner puts its money where its industries are. A privately held investment firm, GTCR invests in growing companies operating in the financial services, health care, technology, and information services industries. It specializes in management-led industry consolidation deals and has invested about $11 billion in capital in 200-plus companies. The firm has taken about 40 companies public since its founding in 1980 by private equity guru Stanley Golder. GTCR often leverages partnerships with management-level investors of its target industries to acquire companies. Its current portfolio includes stakes in some two dozen firms, including Vocus, OneSource, PrivateBancorp, and Sorenson Communications.
